As an economic development agency, Innovation PEI is actively prospecting companies in the video game development industry. Since 2004, we have been successful in establishing 6 video game companies on Prince Edward Island. With the industry growing at such a fast pace, these companies continue to face problems locating skilled and qualified workers. Positions in these companies are well-paying, creative and in demand and should be filled by Islanders. In an effort to raise awareness of these opportunities, Innovation PEI has created an educational after-school program to introduce students to the video game development process. In our 2D (junior high) and 3D (senior high) programs, students will learn the basics of video game development. At the end of the course students will receive a freeware version of the software used in the program as well as other resources that will enable them to continue with video game development long after the program has ended. As a primary result, we hope students will consider advancing their skills in the video game industry and seek additional education for a career in this exciting field.
Each participating school will be visited for a duration of five consecutive days for the 2D program, and ten consecutive days for the 3D program for a period of two hours per day immediately following school. All that is required from a participating school is an available classroom. Internet connections are not required.
For students wishing to have the program at your school, please have a teacher or staff member fill out the form below:
*Please note that the GameForce program is offered to a maximum of 12 students per week. In cases where the number of desired participants exceeds 12, we ask that a waiting list be created with the additional names in the event that an opportunity arises for that school to receive the program for a second time later in the school year.
